“Market Potential for Palestinian Fair Trade Products”
 
The Palestinian Fair Trade Network, PFTN, (PARC, FTDC, OXFAM, PFU, HLCS and UWAC) is honoured to request you participation and contribution in the Second National Fair Trade Conference “Market Potential for Palestinian Fair Trade Products” taking place at Na’im Khader Center - Zababdeh on March 16th,17th, and 18th 2009
 
The conference will bring together Palestinian and international Fair Trade advocates with the aim of discussing and benefiting from fair-trade market potentials for Palestinian farmers and small producers. The specific objectives of the Conference are:
  • To enhance networking and create partnership and synergy among Palestinian and International Fair Trade advocates.
  • To identify and enhance roles of Fair Trade stakeholders including producers, support organizations, export companies, as well as the public sector.
  • To identify challenges for increasing Palestinian fair trade exports by farmers and small producers, and formulate solutions for those challenges.
  • To study current Palestinian Fair Trade supply chain and suggest ways of improving the chain for the benefit of Palestinian farmers and stakeholders.
To achieve these objectives, the Conference will be built around the following major themes:
 
  • Fair Trade; Theory and Practice
  • The Role of Cooperative Work in the Palestinian Fair Trade Movement
  • Fair Trade Market Potentials
  • Fair Trade Certification as a Means for Market Access and Credibility
  • The Role of the Public Sector in Facilitating Palestinian Fair Trade in International Markets
 
The preliminary schedule of the conference is:
First day:
  1. Conference opening; speeches of Jenin governor, Zababdeh municipality and EC representative.
  2. Representations of outputs from the previous two conferences.
  3. First session, under the subject of Fair-trade, theory and practice.
  4. Second session, under the subject of rule of cooperative work in Palestinian fair-trade.
Second day:
  1. First session, under the subject of Potentials of Palestinian olive oil (Market studies).
  2. Second session, under the subject of FLO to access Fair-trade markets.
  3. Third session, under the subject of International fair-trade with Palestine (Oxfam, C.T.M and ATJ).
Third day:
  1. First session, under the subject of Rule of Governmental organisations in olive oil markets.
  2. Second session, Cooperative experience in Fair-trade (Dates, Almond and Handcrafts.
  3. Field visit to an olive mill hopefully owned by a cooperative.
  4. Palestinian Folklore event in the evening.
